Most protein is found in animal products – meat, eggs, milk, fish, seafood. Also, a significant part is in some types of products of plant origin – cereals, grains, such as beans, soybeans, lentils, etc. The bodybuilder’s daily diet should include all these products in their optimal ratio. Protein is a sports supplement and cannot replace natural sources of protein, but only complement them.
Each type of protein food except a unique set of amino acids has a number of other useful elements. Ignoring this fact can lead to adverse consequences. Thus, even taking protein as an additive, you can combine, for example, whey and egg protein with casein, soy protein.
How to store and take protein
Protein should be stored according to the manufacturer’s recommendations indicated on the package. Most modern protein products can be stored at room temperature, protected from direct sunlight. If the product contains few different additives and impurities, it is better to keep it in a cool place. If there is no such place, then a refrigerator will do.
With regard to the intake of protein shakes, the portions need to be prepared, also guided by the directions on the package. It is not recommended to take at one time the amount of product that contains more than 30 grams of protein. If you doubt that the acquired protein contains the specified amount of proteins per 100 grams of product, you can slightly increase the portion.
Store the pre-prepared protein shake in the refrigerator, otherwise it will deteriorate very quickly. However, before taking the product it should be heated up – so the protein is much better absorbed by the digestive system. If you spend a lot of time away from home, but still want to take protein shakes, you should purchase a special shaker that has containers for storing a certain amount of protein. All that is needed later is to add a portion of powder and warm water. Mixing – the product is ready for use: fresh and tasty.
If it is possible to purchase pure protein, with no impurities or flavorings, be sure to use it: various dyes and flavor enhancers are not something good. Pure protein is not very tasty, but completely harmless and, at the same time, much cheaper. Such products are not produced by renowned companies, so before you buy, make sure the manufacturer’s reliability and the quality of its products.
Protein Quality Check
Unlike other types of sports nutrition, protein quality is fairly easy to check. To do this, take one or two servings and pour boiling water. In a quality product, peculiar lumps always appear – the so-called denaturation process occurs. Enhance the reaction by adding vinegar, which lowers the pH and neutralizes the negative charge of the protein. Also studied on the subject of authenticity mixture can boil for a while to enhance the effect.
This quality control method is only suitable for whey protein. At the same time, poor protein purification (isolate) will not give the described reaction.
